Riad Alkemia is a quintessential 18th century Moroccan riad that enjoyed a complete restoration in 2019, and it's classic structure and wonderful original architectural elements were all thoughtfully preserved. This staffed traditional riad offers four bedrooms and a two bedroom suite with the capacity for a third bedroom in the suite lounge, plunge pool and roof terrace. The riad is a peaceful refuge, tucked away in a quiet alley far from the hustle and bustle of the markets yet only a ten minute walk from the Djemaa el Fna square, the heart of the medina, and less than five minutes from the Ben Youssef Madrasa (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Riad Alkemia
The bright white walls are infused with the powerful history
of the space and framed by ancient Berber doorways. Arabesque brass
lamps playfully reflect designs on the walls; an enchanting
showcase of the life that local artisans can impart on their
delicate, handcrafted treasures. Each detail is the result of
painstaking research, intentionally chosen, with the ability to
tell us their stories through three hundred years of history.
Alkemia is spread out over 3 floors and can comfortably accommodate
up to 15 guests in 7 spacious bedrooms. At your disposal a patio
with pool, a traditional hammam, a cosy lounge area and a beautiful
terrace. Each corner of the riad offers a calming environment where
you can immerse yourself in the true spirit of the space and
reinvigorate your soul. Alkemia is a captivating and serene
hideaway; and that's exactly how we want you to experience
it.
Ground floor
Patio - You'll find yourself in the heart of the riad, a
welcoming yet private open-air oasis. Here, the water feature and
natural stone stand out, giving life to the first taste of the
sensory journey that will last for the entirety of your stay.
You'll hear the relaxing sound of water cascading from a fountain
into a swimming pool bordered by four majestic palm trees, you can
even see the blue sky of Marrakech reflected across the surface.
Now, crossing the patio, just behind the fountain, you'll find the
bhou, a tiny, cushioned snug that beckons you and your travel
companions to come inside. Relax and enjoy the first of many mint
teas… your holiday has finally begun!
Sitting Room - Moving on to the sitting room, you'll
want to sink into the sofa, as you take in the reflections on the
swimming pool through the ancient wrought iron windows. It's the
ideal place to relax; you'll be immersed in a tiny world that is
all your own, surrounded by soft colours and low lighting, lulled
to sleep by the crackling fireplace or the rustle of the pages of a
book
Aisha Room (Bedroom 1) - Turn right and you will find the Aisha
Room. A double bedroom by the pool, with a view looking out onto
the patio. Open the carved wooden door, and you'll find yourself in
a space showcasing the splendour of Berber design. A beautiful,
coloured lamp hangs from the original wooden beams on the ceiling.
This private, cozy room is made even more romantic by an inviting
four-poster bed. The furnishings of the bedroom, and the en-suite
bathroom, are simple yet distinctive and elegant
Fatima Room (Bedroom 2) - Continue to the right, and you'll enter
the Fatima Room. A room for two in the typical Berber style. A
large window looks out onto the courtyard, and allows natural
sunlight, filtered through the palm trees and reflected off the
pool, to flood the room. The room is complete with a large en-suite
bathroom, fitted with every comfort and furnished with traditional
elegance. Room can be made up as a double or twin.
First
floor
Zen Area - Ascend the stairs near the entrance and you will
find yourself in a tranquil corner of the riad that is perfect for
relaxing and quiet contemplation. It's an attractive covered
terrace where breakfast and dinner can be enjoyed in the colder
months, or aperitifs and other events, overlooking the courtyard
and swimming pool. In the centre of the Zen Area, tables with
geometric designs and a distinctly textured finish display the
strong bond between Berber craftsmanship and the land. Exposed
wooden beams, reed details, and masonry arches frame this vibrant
and inspirational space.
Maha Room (Bedroom 3) - Continuing through the riad and you will find the Maha Room. A Berber-style room for two, complete with high ceilings and a large window overlooking the Zen Area, which provides a beautiful, diffused natural light. Unique musical instruments hang from the walls, giving the room a special charm and character. A large en-suite bathroom completes this bedroom. Room can be made up as a double or twin.
Malika Room (Bedroom 4) - Just off the balcony is the Malika Room: a bright and airy space perfect for up to three guests. Opening up onto its own private balcony, you can enjoy the splendid views of the courtyard and pool below. The room is made complete by a spacious walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom. The room can be made up as a double or twin and also has a separate single bed.
Talitha Suite (Bedroom 5 & 6) - Over to the side opposite the decorative railing you'll find the Talitha Suite. A true journey into the depths of the riad, and an unexpected, wonderful stop on your Moroccan holiday. An 80 sqm suite that can accommodate up to six people, consisting of two bedrooms, a lounge, and two bathrooms. It is a luxurious space created out of an antique douiria, or 'small house'. The entrance welcomes you into what is truly a feast for the eyes, a high cedar ceiling adorned with characteristic and refined hand-painted designs which dates back at least three hundred years. It is further embellished by a magnificent chandelier.
The main sitting room, which can transform into a comfortable double room if needed, leads you on the right-hand side into another double room which boasts a colourful coffered ceiling. Guests of this bedroom can use a bathroom which is accessed via the lounge. It's fitted with a large shower and features a wooden ceiling that is sure to leave you speechless. There is also a second double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom to the left of the lounge. Looking up, you will be amazed by the stucco dome ceiling and an impressive hand-crafted chandelier, evocative of the imagery found in One Thousand and One Nights.
Roof
terrace
Marrakech is a city full of charm, and its terraces are in a
way symbolic of its spirit. Its unique and elegant vistas are a
fascinating mix of colours, silhouettes, and patterns which play
games with light and shadows to create endless mesmerizing
photographic effects. It's right here on the second-floor terrace,
the perfect spot for relaxation, that all your senses will be
satisfied as you breathe in the scent of jasmine, and the
blossoming white bougainvillea beautifully compliments the soft
shades of the space. Let yourself be captivated by the flavours and
aromas of the local cuisine when the terrace is transformed into a
magical dinner spot, the ideal setting for a meal enjoyed under the
stars, whether it be shared with the chatter of friends, or in
peaceful quietude. Have a look at the covered section of the
terrace and relax on a couch or one of the many large, brightly
coloured hassocks. The perfect place to enjoy the ritual of
fragrant mint tea. Enjoy the last cup of the day prepared by
Lhouessine or spend a relaxing morning letting the sun warm your
skin, cooling off from time to time in the shower. Or, simply enjoy
the colors and aromas wafting by during sunset. No matter what you
choose, each moment spent up on the terrace is sure to be an
unforgettable experience, the high point of your
trip.
Location
It's a magical place where aromas, sounds, tastes, and
sensations make you feel the pulse of the alluring "Red City." An
authentic Moroccan riad that was completely restored in 2019, all
the while preserving its structure and original architectural
elements such as the wooden ceilings, stucco dome, and exposed
beams. Roughly 10 minutes from the Djemaa El Fna square, through
the souk, the riad is spread out over 3 floors, and can comfortably
accommodate up to 14 guests, offering 7 spacious bedrooms and 6
bathrooms. A space rented just to individual private groups, so it
will be reserved exclusively for you and your traveling
companions.

welcome you during your stay. He will give you many tips about

home.
Abdelrasak - The handyman,
is reserved and dependable, someone you can always count on.
Abdelrasak takes care of the swimming pool, the plants, and other
errands. In short, he works behind the scenes to make sure the riad
always looks its best.
Bouchra - The cook, sweet as
can be and always smiling, takes care of the kitchen and cleaning.
Bouchra will be the one to tidy your rooms and is always happy to
share her passion for cooking, and if you're lucky, some of her
culinary secrets, too!
Nourredine - Our night

him.
Please note that, as is usual for Moroccan Riad accommodation, the
riad is staffed 24 hours a day with Bouchra living in the riad and
Nourredine will be present at the riad throughout each night.
Food and Beverage
A daily breakfast consisting of local specialties and
high-quality ingredients is included and is served up on the roof
terrace (weather dependent). Eggs, fresh fruits, sweet and savory
msemen (a traditional layered type of flatbread), baghrir (local
crepe), homemade cakes, various breads and pastries, jams, honey,
butter, yogurt, cheese and an assortment of fresh orange juice,
teas and coffee make up the rich variety on offer. There are plenty
of places to eat in Marrakech, however if you do not fancy heading
out then Bouchra is on hand to prepare lunch or dinner, there is a
menu available (2 course for from 275DH/£22, 3 course 300DH/£24),
meals can be booked each morning. Tea, coffee, soft drinks, beer
and wine are all available to purchase during your stay.
Wellness and
Hammam
An integral part of the Moroccan experience that shouldn't
be missed is a trip to the hammam. An ancient ritual that is still
a fundamental part of the local culture today. Opening the door,
you'll find yourself in a room with soft light emanating from the
glow of candles nestled in small arched alcoves on the walls. Go
through the ancient door inside the massage room, and make yourself
comfortable in the hammam, where you can treat yourself to the
pleasures of an authentic ancestral experience. A journey of
well-being that relaxes the mind and cleanses the body. Even the
products used in the various treatments are the result of recipes
that have been handed down over generations. Black Soap, which not
only leaves you feeling fresh and clean, but also eliminates toxins
and revitalizes even the deepest layers of your skin, Rhassoul, a
clay that has been enriched with essential oils, which works to
soften and brighten your skin, making it like silk to the touch,
and Kessa, a special glove used to exfoliate and, finally, the
Argan Oil, which is used during the massage to nourish, moisturize,
and regenerate the skin are all things that you can expect in the
hammam experience. Book the wellness program you prefer to relax
your mind and cleanse your body..
Activities
Khalid will be on hand during the day and will be happy to
help you arrange day excursions, a cooking lesson with Bouchra,
activities, taxis, drivers for the day to explore the Atlas
Mountains or reservations at restaurants.
Local Area - Marrakech
Medina
Riad Alkemia is located within the Marrakech Medina, part of the
city's UNESCO World Heritage site. The riad is set among the narrow
alleys (derbs) of the historic old town, close to the traditional,
less touristy souks that characterise this area of the Medina. Key
landmarks are within easy walking distance: Le Jardin
Secret is approximately a 7-minute walk, Madrasa
Ben Youssef around 10 minutes on foot, and Jemaa
el-Fna Square about 15 minutes' walk. Jardin
Majorelle is approximately a 25-minute walk from the riad.
A wide selection of restaurants, cafés and local eateries can be
found within a 5-10 minute walk, making this a convenient base for
exploring Marrakech on foot..
Region - Marrakech
Marrakech is one of Morocco's most visited destinations, located
at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. The city is known for its
historic Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its network of
souks, palaces, gardens and traditional riads. Marrakech offers a
rich cultural heritage alongside a wide variety of restaurants,
museums, hammams and artisan workshops. Beyond the Medina, the
wider Marrakech region includes modern districts, resort-style
developments and open countryside, providing access to golf
courses, desert landscapes and the Atlas Mountains.
Getting to the
villa
The drive from Marrakech Menara Airport to the Medina takes
approximately 25 minutes, depending on traffic. There is no
vehicular access directly to Riad Alkemia due to the narrow streets
of the Medina, and your driver will drop you at the nearest
accessible point. Your host will be waiting to meet you and walk
you the final couple of minutes to the riad. We recommend arranging
your private airport transfer with us, as navigating the Medina
independently on arrival can be challenging.

Private Airport Transfers
We recommend arranging your private airport transfer with us, as the Medina is a maze of narrow alleys and traditional derbs that can make independent navigation challenging, particularly on arrival. The drive from Marrakech Menara Airport to the Medina takes approximately 25 minutes, depending on traffic. There is no vehicular access to Riad Alkemia, and your driver will drop you at the nearest accessible point, where your host will be waiting to meet you and walk you the final couple of minutess to the riad.
Car Rental
We are unable to arrange car rental in Marrakech, however car rental is available at Marrakech Menara Airport. Due to the location and nature of Marrakech's medina, there are very few roads and even fewer parking space, we therefore strongly recommend not having a car during your stay in the medina. If you do wish to rent a car for a day to explore the wider area, perhaps the coast or the Atlas Mountains, we suggest arranging to collect/drop off your car out of town, perhaps at the airport.
An amazing Riad with extremely helpful staff. Fantastic location close to everything . Staff were very helpful with booking treatments , restaurants and making sure we were comfortable during our stay .
We were a group of nine and would highly recommend this Riad for a group friends or large family visiting Marrakech.
The team at the Riad was incredible. They made sure everything about our stay was seamless and taken care of. It was beautiful there, just like the pictures, and the food was delicious (even catering wonderfully to a member of our group who has celiac's). The location was perfect.
Couldn't recommend this riad more.
Best Birthday ever! The riad was everything I dreamed and the onsite staff is top notch. From Khalid and Karim being knowledgeable about the history of the riad but the city itself to provide recommendations. Chefs kiss to Khadijah as the prepared meals we had were delicious and the fact she was flexible in dealing with food allergies I'm forever grateful. They made my first visit to Marrakech very special and memorable and I plan to visit the riad and staff again in the future. 10 out of 10 hands down.
If you get the chance to be taken care of by Veronica and her team do not hesitate. You'll find expertise, professionalism, fairness, joie de vivre, taste and the ability to quickly master YOUR needs and desires. I've traveled extensively and offer this personal detail to confirm that, in my experience, Riad Alchemia is top notch. We're a group of eleven, 3 generations from 1 to 75. The Riad is a respite, in the vibrant medina. At any moment you can explore the old city, and then, when you've had your fill, a quick return to your oasis. Inside this safe, spotless, spacious home you'll experience the beauty of an ancient culture expertly curated to meet modern needs. And the staff. I mentioned their attributes earlier, but not their humanity: Khalid, the manager, Houcine, the daily assistant, Karim, the night assistant, Chef Khadija, Charifa, the room attendant, and handyman Abderrasak. Their gentile, unobtrusive, competent presence embraced us and we quickly felt at home.
Riad was extremely beautiful and clean. We loved our stay here. Everyone responded quickly for anything we needed. Karim, Houcine, and Khalid were absolutely amazing. They did everything possible to make not only our stay at the Riad amazing but also helped us coordinate our trip plans. Would 100% stay here again for the beautiful Riad, location, and staff.
Perfect place for a business seminar.
Quiet and in the center, close to everything.
We had the most amazing stay. We were a group of seven
friends and loved the Riad. The decor and gathering places were
beautiful.
What made the trip really special was the support from
Khalid, Karim and the whole team. We can't emphasise enough how
wonderful they made the trip. They helped with transfers, taxis,
navigation and were welcoming and warm.
We had treatments and made use of the hammam which were lovely. The breakfasts and lunches were delicious with mint tea a lovely treat when we returned.
Thanks for making it such a special experience.
The on site staff was excellent. They were helpful and gave excellent recommendations. Rooms were clean and there was great peaceful fun vibe with the property.
Riad Alkemia was a magical stay. We were a group of 10 and it felt spacious with common spaces on every floor. The riad of course is beautifully detailed (the ceiling of the main bedroom in particular). What made our stay was of course the staff - Karim, Khalid and Houssein were amazing and so kind. There is always someone on site to help and we always felt very taken care of. Only thing I'll flag is that some things are 'extras' but weren't made super clear to us (e.g. waters) - it was pretty reasonably priced but just a warning!
My family and I the perfect experience at Riad Alkemia. The riad was a one-stop shop for everything we wanted to do during our time in Marrakesh. Most importantly, her staff is incredible. Khalid, Karim and their support team are all proactive to anything you need and wonderfully kind. My three children loved each of them by the time our trip ended. Alkemia provides the affordability of an AirBnb for a large group with the convenience and service of a hotel.
The location is also ideal. It feels private, quiet and remote while very close to the souks and in the heart of the medina. We strongly recommend private dinners at the riad, a guided tour with Adil (he's wonderful and wealth of knowledge!), the hot air balloon ride and camel ride with sunset dinner in the desert. 10 Stars
I cannot recommend this riad enough! From the moment we arrived, the experience was seamless and truly unforgettable. The staff went above and beyond in every way possible - warm, attentive, and always available to help with anything we needed. They made us feel like family.
One of the biggest highlights was how easy they made everything. They arranged reliable airport transfers, which took all the stress out of arriving and departing. They also helped us book hammam treatments, guided tours of the city, dinner reservations, and even day trips into the stunning Ourika Valley. And breakfast on the rooftop patio every morning was the perfect way to start each day. Everything was organized flawlessly, with excellent guides and drivers.
The riad itself is absolutely beautiful - peaceful, clean, and full of charm. If you're looking for a truly special experience in Marrakech, with hospitality that feels genuine and personal, this is the place. I'm already dreaming of coming back!
Riad Alkemia was absolutely perfect! The Riad is nestled right in the Medina making it very walkable and the decor is traditional Moroccan -- it's stunning. Each bedroom has its own bathroom making it perfect for large groups and couples. The grounds from the bottom floor to the terrace are picturesque. Veronica reached out to me months prior to help with planning my groups' stay in Marrakech. Through the Riad, you are able to book tons of different activities like Henna, Hammam & Spa, Belly dancing, Argan oil class, photoshoot, traditional storytelling and more. We ended up booking most of these experiences and the ease of booking through our Riad and having these vendors come to our beautiful accommodations made everything easy and even more fun! While at the Riad, the house staff is on point, they are truly the extra special magic to this experience! Anything you need they are there to provide it for you and they also anticipate your needs -- giving you a real 5 star experience.
Our stay at the Riad exceeded all expectations. The restoration was tastefully done and the décor was elegant throughout. The courtyard, centered around a serene pool, became our favorite gathering spot - and a refreshing dip was the perfect way to unwind after full days exploring the medina and taking various tours.
For our milestone anniversary, we decided to celebrate on the rooftop - and it turned out to be the best decision ever! Veronica, our gracious host, helped bring my vision to life. The evening began with a trio playing traditional music, followed by a mesmerizing belly dancer, and ended on a high note with a live band playing classic 80s hits. We then enjoyed a sumptuous three-course meal that rivaled the best restaurants we visited in Marrakech.
The concierge service and staff struck the perfect balance - warm and welcoming without being overly familiar, attentive and helpful without being intrusive.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!
This was a wonderful stay. We felt absolutely well taken care of. Veronica and all her staff were attentive, organized and made us feel very much at home and most welcome. The villa is well appointed and has been thoughtfully and beautifully furnished with so much to appreciate from the art, furnishings and smallest details. It is extremely well located and easy to get around to all the important sites and also the souks. Food was plentiful and delicious and was well catered to our needs and tastes. The rooftop/garden was a wonderful bonus and a great location for breakfasts, relaxing and end of day dinners. A very very special shout out to all the staff who were so fantastic and kind to our very large party, including one child who travelled with us. Do book - you will not regret. I will certainly be back again to experience the Riad and Magical Marrakesh!
The stay at RIAD ALKEMIA was simply magical
Close to the medina, which is known to be "noisy", but in the end, once in the Riad, you are in a quiet, relaxing place, with birdsong.
I booked to celebrate my 30th birthday surrounded by my close friends
The RIAD is beautiful, unbelievable charm.
The rooms, patio, terrace, breakfast… everything was perfect and clean.
The staff is AMAZING, Khalid and Ouassel, THANK YOU ++++
Always there to answer our questions, caring ++ and attentive ++, the best of the best!!
As for the host Veronica, very responsive, good advice, thank you so much.
I requested several additional services, all of which were perfect. (Meals, birthday cake, dancer, guitarist, decoration, etc.)
Thanks to Boushra for the food, it was delicious.
I recommend this Riad without so much as a second thought, and we'll be happy to go back!!
Amazed, enchanted
Thank you and see you soon for a longer stay
Our stay at Riad Alkemia was absolutely magical. From the moment we arrived, Khalid, Ouassel, and the entire team went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Their hospitality was unmatched - always warm, attentive, and eager to help with anything we needed.
The riad itself is stunning, beautifully designed, and a true oasis in the heart of Marrakesh. Every detail was thoughtfully curated, making our stay both comfortable and luxurious. The atmosphere was peaceful, the food was delicious, and the service was impeccable.
A huge thank you to Khalid, Wasil, and the whole team for making our experience so special. We truly felt at home and cannot wait to return. If you're looking for an exceptional place to stay in Marrakesh, this is it!
We were a family of 14 that booked this amazing riad for the latter part of our holiday. Our age range was from 10 years to 80 years old.
Staying at this Riad was the highlight of our holiday, what an amazing experience. The night we arrived we enjoyed a cooking class in the house, we always had breakfast on the patio in the mornings and if somebody wanted to stay in, food was delivered to our house, arranged by Khalid. We also had Henna artist and massages in the house. We asked for the pool to be heated that was great for the children.
Khalid, Veronica, Ouassel and all the other amazing staff were attentive and cared for us so well through out the stay and always responsive.
The neighborhood is so amazing, lively and authentic with
great restaurants and great shops.
We had the room arranged before we came so everybody knew
where they were staying and Khalid arranged for a transport from
our hotel and to the airport and all luggage was taking care of. 10
out of 10 recommended
This is a beautiful Riad, and Khalid and Ouassil were excellent hosts during our time. Veronica helped organise activities and transport - a great experience and highly recommended!
We had a lovely birthday celebration at the riad. Khalid, Ouassel and the rest of the team looked after us very well and were super helpful during our stay! The host is very responsive and flexible with any requests to make the occasion more special!
A genuinely wonderful five days with four families at the Riad. We never felt rushed or crowded and everyone could gather or peel off for some peace in any of the many nooks and day beds. Khalid and Soufiane could not have been more accommodating, offering help booking transfers, restaurants and tours, and even assisting the youngest in our group during bread-making class. It was a superb stay that we will be recommending to family and friends.
My family and I had a great stay at Riad Alkemia. The staff especially Khalid and Souffiane were extremely nice and catered to our needs. Felt like we were in a 5 star hotel. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Marrakech.
Thank you for making our stay wonderful.
Riad Alkemia is a hidden gem in the buzzing Medina of Marrakech. A truly peaceful place with a beautiful interior design. It was an amazing experience for us of harmony. The team at the Riad has been very proactive and made sure we could experience Marrakech in the best possible way inside and outside the Riad. A big thanks for your kindness and splendid service.
We booked this riad with eight friends. We were warmly welcomed, and everything was perfectly and well organized. Veronika and her team (especially Khalid) took care of everything. This riad is simply wonderful, a fantastic roof terrace, great rooms, very nice and discreet staff. I highly recommend it. We had great breakfast, a very tasty dinner and in addition we booked massage and hammam. Everything at its best.
We were 8 people and enjoyed it very much.
We stayed at Riad Al Kemia for my 40th Birthday party and it was the perfect place to celebrate. The location is ideal for exploring the souks and we could not have been better looked after. Khalid and Soufiane are absolute stars and supported us at every step with recommendations and logistics. The Riad is beautifully decorated and is a peaceful oasis within the bustling Medina. Highly recommend!
Great Riad and very good hosts. They picked us up from the parking and helped with everything we needed for our stay. Very flexible and great hospitality.
The riad is amazing, as is its location. The staff is very professional, pleasant and welcoming, always with a smile. I highly recommend this Riad if you plan to stay in the heart of Marrakech. Also not to be missed, the Moroccan spa - hammam.
We had a reunion of family/friends who came from different parts of the world. We had an unforgettable stay thanks to the staff of Riad Alkemia.
They organized everything for us, transfers, desert visits, transfer to and from the airport and even a festive evening. The staff prepared a very tasty dinner and provided a 5-star service. They also organized a DJ who was playing modern music with oriental flavor.
We all left delighted with our holiday.
Overall they just made our stay unforgettable.
A big THANK YOU to the entire team of Riad Alkemia for making this beautiful trip possible. You are by far the best hosts I have ever had! Thank you for helping me organize the wonderful activities, for your warm welcome and the great service. I can highly recommend the dinner at the Riad, the music group playing wonderful desert blues as well as the Quad tour to Agafay with a dinner below the stars.
The place was beautiful and I can't say enough good things about the whole staff. Khalid and the whole staff were so attentive and accommodating. The food was also absolutely amazing!
This Riad was amazing, really made our stay in Morocco that much more memorable. The Riad was beautiful on the inside and all six of us had out own room with bathrooms, we were extremely comfortable. The in-house helper was extremely responsive and attentive. Upon entry he provided us with local Moroccan mint tea, tour of the house, and instructional map highlighting the local area. He was easily accessible via text throughout our entire stay and helped to organize taxis, restaurant reservations, and excursions. He was extremely helpful.
All of the room had AC which, and my sister took advantage of
the in-house Hammam and Spa which she thoroughly enjoyed. Breakfast
on the terrace was also enjoyable.
Great stay in a Riad full of charm. The decor is neat and Khalid and Soufiane's hospitality is perfect.
