Sustainability at Six Senses Kocatas Mansions, Istanbul

Our people, our community

Six Senses is committed to sustainability and its obligation to the environment and the community. Widely recognized as having established the initial benchmarks for the hospitality industry and that a leisure lifestyle could be successfully embraced by the very top tier of resorts, Six Senses has shown that it is possible to enhance the guest experience by respecting nature.

Consistent with the commitment of the group, Six Senses Istanbul Kocatas Mansions, Istanbul has developed experiences to highlight the history and culture of this unique location. The resort manages its own reverse osmosis plant and crystal water refinery, producing high-quality drinking water while keeping the carbon footprint low and without the use of plastic bottles. An organic vegetable garden supports the aim of further reducing our environmental footprint. Wherever possible, the packaging is kept to an absolute minimum or is reusable.

Waste management

Plastic Free ~ Our commitment to being plastic-free by 2022 is reflected in our design and practices. We bottle our own drinking water to eliminate plastic bottles. We engage with our suppliers to eliminate all single-use plastic packaging and switch to reusable containers to reduce waste generated.

Best practices

Organic Garden ~ A small Organic Garden provides the hotel with fresh and seasonal vegetables and herbs. A larger garden is in progress & will provide a larger space for food production. Growing our own food allows us to control farming methods and keep our environmental footprint low through eliminated transportation and packaging

Local and regional products ~ Six Senses Kocatas Mansions promotes regional products to highlight local tastes and support the local community.

Environmentally friendly cleaning products ~ All products used in housekeeping and laundry are environmentally friendly

Bottling plant ~ As in all Six Senses resorts, drinking water is produced and bottled on-site.

Lighting ~ The resort is fully equipped with LED lighting.

Fish & Seafood ~ Following international guidelines to prevent overfishing and conserving biodiversity, we ensure that no endangered species of fish and seafood are offered in our restaurants.

Social responsibility ~ Six Senses Kocatas Mansions is dedicated to the local community, which is why 0.5% of resort revenue is allocated to a Sustainability Fund, which is used to support projects resulting in community development and conservation of the environment. Additional contributions from guests, including 50% of the revenue generated from Six Senses water, is collected and directed towards charitable causes within the community

Ongoing and future projects

A collaboration with TUDAV (Marine Research Foundation) will allow our guests to learn more about the marine environment of the Bosphorus and dolphin spotting.
