Flying to Koh Samui

The quickest and easiest way to Koh Samui from the UK would be to fly direct to Bangkok and then fly direct from Bangkok to Koh Samui which is only a 60-90 minute flight.

There are other ways you can reach Koh Samui without going via Bangkok, however these flights would involve multiple airlines and a connection in a different country depending on which airlines you choose to fly with (eg. London Heathrow > Singapore > Koh Samui or London Heathrow > Hong Kong > Koh Samui).

Bangkok Airways is the only airline that flies into Koh Samui since they privately own Samui Airport, and there are multiple daily flights that take this route.

   Koh Samui Airport (USM)

Koh Samui Airport (also known as "Samui International Airport") is conveniently located close to Chaweng, the largest town on the island, which is approximately a 15 minute transfer time.

Koh Samui only has one airport but it is one of the best looking airports in Thailand, and is privately owned and run by Bangkok Airways. The airport is located between Bophut and Chaweng beaches, and has won a multitude of awards over the years. One in particular being the Environment Impact Assessment Award for its use of locally produced palm leaves and natural, open-air cooling system which together with the bamboo thatched roofs, widespread ponds and exotic flowers immediately creates the holiday atmosphere.

The airport has two main terminals; domestic and international. However, an extension in 2007 brought six new terminal buildings, four for handling domestic flights and two for handling international flights. 2008 saw the grand opening of the Samui Park Avenue which lies in between the departures and arrivals terminals in an area of 6,400m² and features a 20-unit shopping mall. The shopping complex features well-known shops, spas and restaurants, a cuisine garden, massage centre and even a pharmacy shop. Many hotels are also present at the complex.

There is a restriction on liquids contained in hand luggage, just as there is when departing at UK airports.
