Flying to Phuket

Thai Airways offer direct flights from London Heathrow to Phuket and journey time is approximately 12 hours. There is, however, a large selection of airlines who fly from UK airports to Phuket with one stop which is usually Bangkok. These flights tend to offer a wider choice of dates and times, and often work out the best value for money. A changeover in Bangkok can also work well for those planning a stopover in the nation's capital. From Bangkok, domestic flights take approximately 90 minutes.

   Phuket International Airport (HKT)

Phuket International Airport is located in the north west of the island and is approximately 1 hour away from the main resort town of Patong and 45 minutes from Phuket Town. This is Thailand's third busiest airport (behind Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK)) and has the capacity to welcome around 20 million passengers per year after a 5.14 million baht expansion completed in 2016. There are three terminals at Phuket International Airport; Terminal 2 which is used for international flights, Terminal 3 for domestic flights and Terminal X for charter flights.

The architecture of the building allows natural light to flood in, and there are some great views of the Andaman Sea. At the check-in hall, a handful of shops can be found. Moving through to the departures lounge, the airside has many duty free and souvenir shops located on the first floor as well as a kid's zone, and there is a good selection of restaurants on the second floor. The second floor is also where the Business Class lounges can be found.

Other facilities include ATMs, banking, currency exchange, car rental, taxi/shuttlebus stands and information desks.

There is a restriction on liquids contained in hand luggage, just as there is when departing at UK airports.
